Recruiting Tips for your Origami Owl® Business

Hey Hoot Mamas! Happy Wednesday! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you saw that our area has been experiencing quite a bit of snow & cold temperatures this past week….8 inches to be exact and a record temp of -10! All of our local schools cancelled classes this week and even my Jewelry Bar® was snowed out.  We have been pretty much "snowed in" since Saturday.  I know some people hate being stuck at home, but I personally kind of enjoy it.  I love the lazy time with my family…cuddling, watching movies and eating comfort foods!

As one of the many perks of being a member of Team Hoot Mamas, I host bi-monthly training calls.   This week's topic is all about recruiting!!!  The Hoot Mamas are excited and ready to hit the ground running in 2014 by building their teams and I can not wait to help them get started.  Today's topic is all about sharing the Origami Owl® opportunity and to provide helpful suggestions on how to change your mindset when it comes to recruiting.  My easy and simple tips will greatly impact how you go about recruiting your next team member.

First, in order to become more confident and consistent in recruiting you must understand WHY, HOW and WHERE to recruit.  WHY would you want to mentor others and build a team?  Mentoring others provides so many more amazing opportunities in your business that you wouldn't normally achieve if you chose to only host Jewelry Bars®.  Opportunities such as significant financial impact, career advancement, recognition, leadership, networking, personal growth and helping others achieve their dreams would not be possible without mentoring.

Second, you must understand HOW to recruit.  Recruiting is a skill that can be learned.  So many have a fear of recruiting either because of rejection or the fear of being too pushy.   If you are fearful of rejection or appearing too pushy when offering the gift of Origami Owl®, then you are focused on the wrong person.  When you mentor a new designer you are also giving her the opportunity to fulfill her dreams whether it's for her to have more time with her kids or less stress over the car payment.  Focus on your potential recruits needs and how the gift of Origami Owl® can help or change her life is always the right approach.

I want you to learn when you are sharing the opportunity that it is important to remove your emotion from the outcome.  This will take the pressure off of you when you are going through the recruiting process. Think of yourself as hosting a birthday party and offering your guests a piece of birthday cake.   After offering them the piece of cake, it is their decision to accept or decline.  Are you offended or upset when your guest declines a piece of cake? Do you leave the room and go have a cry in your pantry?  No!  Perhaps she is on a diet, not feeling well or just not ready to have her cake yet.  She is not saying no to you, she is saying no to the birthday cake.  You move on and keep offering the birthday cake to your other guests.  This is how you want to recruit, keep offering the birthday cake to your guests and quickly move on when they say no.  Someone is eventually going to want a piece of birthday cake and you want to be the one offering it to them.

You must also change your recruiting mindset in order to be successful at recruiting.  I started as an Origami Owl® Designer just like you with a $149 kit.  In less than a year, I have been promoted three times.  Each promotion that I have achieved has been directly linked to recruiting.  What makes my story unique is that I saw the big picture of what Origami Owl® had to offer and joined the business with an Active recruiting mindset.   With that said, lets talk a little bit about having an Active recruiting mindset and the difference between having an Active and Passive recruiting mindset.

A Designer with an Active recruiting mindset is actively seeking out members to share the opportunity with. They are intentional in their daily recruiting activities by making lists of potential recruits and setting small goals to talk to at least 1-3 of them a day.  They talk to people about the opportunity every where they go, such as the check out line in Target, Library, at the pediatrician's office, the playground or during Preschool drop off.  They also actively recruit on Social Media and take the time to most affectively use they amazing tools.  They follow up with warm leads and do not allow them to grow cold.

A designer with a Passive recruiting mindset is not actively looking for new team members in their daily lives.  It's not that they don't want a new team member, because they do.   They just go about their day, barely mentioning their business to anyone, hoping recruits will just some how find them.  They do not set small goals.  They do not share the opportunity as they talk to someone who could even possibly be a new recruit.  They are afraid of rejection or appearing pushy so they do not mention the opportunity at all.  They sit and wait hoping that the leads will some how find them and everything will work out.

Who do you think is going to be growing a team, moving up in Origami Owl®  and making the most of their business? The Designer with the Active or Passive mindset?

Lastly, you want to know WHERE to recruit.  You won't find a better opportunity to recruit more people at the same time then at a Jewelry Bar®.  Every time you go to a Jewelry Bar®, you have to be intentional and possess an Active recruiting mindset at all times.  I always go to a Jewelry Bar® with the intent of identifying at least 2 women that I would like to have join my team.  The first recruit you are going to identify is your hostess.  It has been said that 80-90% of recruits are previous hostesses.  The first step to recruiting your hostess is to include a "Think About It" packet in her Hostess Folder.  This gets the ball rolling and has her already thinking about the role as an Origami Owl® Independent Designer.

My "Think About It" packet  includes the following:
  • A pink or turquoise gift bag.
  • Owl sticker
  • Join Our Team flier
  • Career Plan flier
  • Catalog
  • Personal Card

When the guests begin to arrive, be sure you are taking the time to get to know the them.  Who is the most well liked guest or the life of the party?  Seek those guests out and get to know them better by asking them questions about themselves.  Are they married?  Have children?  Do they work outside of the home?  What activities are they involved in?  Pay attention to what questions they then ask you.  See where the gift of Origami Owl®  can fit into their life.  You also want to take this time to start planting your recruiting seeds and see how they respond.  Be sure you do not pre-judge, try to get to know everyone at the party.  Even though you have a personal goal of targeting two potential recruits, you never want to limit yourself incase there are more.  Once you have identified your second recruit (or maybe even a third!) based on your conversations with your guests, you tell them you included something fun for her to look at when she gets home and then place her receipt inside the"Think About It" packet during the checkout process.  My goal for every Jewelry Bar® is to get rid of at least two packets, one to my hostess and one to a guest.   After the guest receives her order in a few days, follow up with a customer care call asking her if she was happy with her products and what she thought of the fun packet she took home with her.  The fortune is always in the follow up!

When you wrap up your Jewelry Bar®be sure to ask your hostess if she looked over the "Think About It" packet that you gave her.  Let her now how much commission she would have made if this was her party.  Tell her if she would sign up to become an Origami Owl® Designer that this could be her launch party.   She would receive the commission and any bookings that came with it.  Tell her that she was the one who did all the work and she will be pleasantly surprised to just how easy it really was.

Where else can you share the opportunity?  Recruiting opportunities really are everywhere and it is up to you to be intentional in your recruiting efforts and always possess an Active Recruiting Mindset to find them.  These recruiting tips when followed can help you when speaking to potential new team members.  Make sure to always be up front and honest when speaking about the business.  Show your passion but don’t scare them with too much information or over enthusiasm.  Remember to always follow up!  You can grow your team and your income through sharing the opportunity with confidence and practice.

Ashley Fox ~ Sr Team Leader - Frisco, TX

Hi!  I am a working mother of two.  Cole is 6 and Jack is 4. My little boys keep me super busy, but I love every minute of it!
I was born and raised in Clovis, NM and attended Angelo State University.  After graduating with a finance degree, I moved to the Dallas/Fort worth area and now have been here for 15 years….time flies when you are having fun!

I am a self-admitted insurance nerd, and I still work as the Regional Vice President of a large insurance agency.  Even though I love insurance, my  true desire is to own my own business and be involved in something that gives me the opportunity to get paid what I am worth as well as work my own hours.  Origami Owl® fulfills that desire.  I originally joined Origami Owl® because I loved the lockets!!   When my friend wore a locket, I had to have one!  I was immediately obsessed!  I was building lockets in my brain constantly!  When I could not find a designer in my area, I knew this was a good opportunity to be involved in something fresh and new!
When I joined Origami Owl® back in September, I never dreamed my business would take off so quickly! I love to inspire and motivate women to go for their dreams!  If you have the desire to have fun, meet great people and get paid in the process, I would love to talk to you about the Origami Owl® Opportunity. I will personally mentor you as well as share my secrets to quick success!  Please feel free to email me at teamashleyfox@hotmail.com to learn more about this amazing opportunity!

Kim Parsons ~ Senior Team Leader - Vermilion, OH

Hello lover's of beautiful and meaningful jewelry! My name is Kimberly Parsons and I am a Senior Team Leader with Origami Owl®. I began my Origami Owl® journey in July of 2013. Now that might not seem like very long but great things can happen in a short amount of time, trust me.

From an early age I knew jewelry would be a part of my life. I used to spend hours playing in my grandma's massive jewelry box. I love all things that sparkle, twinkle, and shine. I can't help myself. My love of jewelry hasn't had a purpose until recently when I realized it could serve as a way to not only give me financial freedom, but also empower me to be a leader.

I'm like most moms and wives today, I work hard, raise my family, and try to live the American dream. I have two beautiful children that mean the world to me! Josh who is 12 and Emilie who is 8. I have a wonderful husband who I have the pleasure of saying still makes my heart flutter when I hear his name. I live in a small town on the shores of Lake Erie, in Northeast, Ohio. I have team members locally and on the East and West coast. I work as a graphic designer by day and an Origami Owl® Designer by night. I am fueled by my second love, sugar free vanilla latte's. I can't make it a day without one. I should have it pumped into my veins from an I.V. bag...seriously!

I'd love to say that I set out to find a company like Origami Owl® to help me make my dream of financial freedom come true but that would be a lie. The truth is that it just fell into my lap. I was invited to a party and since I hadn't heard of Origami Owl®, I decided to look it up. It took one Google search and I was hooked. Affordable jewelry that is well made, fashionable, and a visual reminder of MY story! What could be better? Once I realized it was a way women of all walks of life and varied experiences could share their personal story, I knew that I could be a part of something amazing. Nothing was going to stop me from joining this awesome company. I felt an immediate connection to it, a passion and excitement. Lucky for me, my husband was on board and off I went to sign up. From that moment on I have been blessed with tremendous support from family, friends, and even strangers all eager to know more about Origami Owl®  and all it has to offer. I promise you, joining Origami Owl® will be the best decision you make in 2014.

Now you might be saying, "Okay, that's great Kim, but what will you and Origami Owl® do to help make my dreams a reality"? That's easy. Motivate, Support, Inspire, and Empower you to achieve whatever life goal you set. As a mentor and Senior Team Leader, I have committed myself to my teams success. I offer one on one mentoring and training. I am here to help and support you every step of the way. I truly love being a mentor. Each time I have answered a question or helped support my team in any way, I feel an incredible sense of pride. My team is an extension of my family and I treat them as such. They push me to be a better leader and that is the best feeling. So, if you are positive, motivated, and a go getter, then Origami Owl® and my awesome Hooting Honey's team is the place for you!

I am having the time of my life with Origami Owl® and you can to. If you would like to be a part of this amazing opportunity, email me at glitzylockets@gmail.com.

Krista Burchett ~ Team Leader - Kent, OH

Hello Future Owls and new friends!  My name is Krista Burchett, Independent Designer #39832. I'm a mother of one daughter McKenna and future stepmother to Mira, Carson and Colby. I will be getting married next June in Aruba and can hardly wait! When I'm not working on my Origami Owl® business, I work part time as a wound nurse and Girl Scout leader.  I enjoy being with family, swimming, watching scary movies, hiking, and love traveling.

I was introduced to Origami Owl® by a friend. I asked what is that? She said they have lockets and you can put these charms in there. I like any women love jewelry but wasn't sure about the quality of the product. I started my own research. I fell in love. It took me hours to plan my locket. It made me think of happy times in my life. I also could honor my family , faith , and what I stood for. When I received my locket I was shocked! The packaging was superb. When I opened it and saw my locket, quality wasn't even a question . I wore my locket everyday and everywhere. People couldn't stop asking about it. They told me what they would put in there lockets. I made new friends. I then decided this is what I need to do. Help people tell the world what they love. After speaking with my fiancĂ© he encouraged me to start and join Origami Owl®.

I started looking for someone to mentor me . I live in Kent, Ohio and wanted someone local to help . I found Karen and Team Hoot Mama.  Speaking with Karen I told her I had no experience in direct sales. She talked me through step by step. Always there to answer my questions and helping me to build my Own business. I love the fact we have local meetings and can meet other ladies who have the same passion. Origami Owl® also has training at your fingertips and webinars weekly. I now attend all the training available by the company as I have made so many great friends. This team is truly a team. We don't compete with each other but encourage one another. I started spreading the word of Origami Owl® and how happy I was.  People wanted to be a part of what made me so happy so I started to recruit others in my journey. It was not long and I had my own team of designers, Team Hotlockets.

As you can see I have enjoyed my journey!  In the future, I hope to promote a Senior Team Leader. My team is starting to grow their own teams and blossoming in many ways. If you would like to learn more about joining Origami Owl®, and having your own schedule while earning extra money or just want to make your own locket and schedule a Jewelry Bars®, you can reach me at kburchett1hotlocket.origamiowl.com or kburchett1hotlocket@yahoo.com.

Maranda Spicel ~ Team Leader - Medina, OH

I’m Maranda and I’m an Independent Designer with Origami Owl®. I discovered Origami Owl while surfing the internet one day and I instantly fell in love! That’s when I decided this was the perfect opportunity to do something I’ve always wanted to do with a product and company I truly believe in.  If you haven’t checked out Origami Owl® website, please do! The story of Origami Owl® and the founder Bella is just awesome!

So this is MY story…
I was born and raised in Ohio surrounded by wonderful family and friends. I was raised to believe I can do anything I set my mind to and it’s because of my amazing parents that I have the determination and passion to achieve my dreams. I currently live in the Medina, Ohio area. I’m married to a great guy and we have 4 fur babies that keep us on our toes!

So what’s in my locket?
Love Plate- This is for the love I have for all of my family and friends. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
Letter S Charm- For my last name! Spicel. It’s my married name and I love that it’s mine! Thank you for sharing babe!
Infinity Charm- This represents my infinite love for my husband Tony. We met in the third grade (he had cooties!), started dating our senior year of high school, and were married over 6 years ago. I can’t imagine my life any other way. He’s a blessing (most days ;) ). I love him for who he is, but even more for who I am because of him.
Palm Tree Charm- I think I live to go on vacation! Ask my Mother-in-Law Kim. I think we are happiest when we are on the beach… Or counting down until vacation… Or planning a vacation… Who knows! But the point is, I love vacations!

So that’s my story. Now let me help create YOURS!

Christie Huck ~ Team Leader - Goodyear, AZ

Aloha! My name is Christie Huck,  I live in Goodyear Arizona and have been with Origami Owl® since September 2013.   And it's been amazing! It's kinda funny really because the opportunity just sort of fell in my lap one day. I was browsing around on Pinterest and I happened to see a Cincinnati Bengals themed locket. I was instantly hooked. Looking for more, I came across Karen's blog, contacted her and signed up. And I'm so glad I did. In just 4 short months, I have promoted twice and am now a Team Leader. I am so thankful for this opportunity!!  Because of Origami Owl®, I am able to stay at home with my kids, Nathan who is six and Hailey who just turned one! My next goal is to bring my husband home from his career that keeps him away for long hours of the day and I know Origami Owl® will get me there!

In my personal life, I enjoy the beach and all things related to the ocean. In trying to be a force for good, I enjoy hosting fundraisers for animal rescue groups. I believe that protecting our environment and all of its inhabitants is extremely important. In my previous life, I was a branch manager for a financial services company for 11 years so I have quite a bit of experience in supporting a team and encouraging personal and professional growth. I named my team "Team Fearless" to serve as as reminder to my Designers that you should never be afraid to put yourself out there. Be Fearless and see all of the wonderful opportunities that will come your way. My goal for my team is to provide them with the knowledge, resources and encouragement they need to be just as successful (or even more) as I have been! By helping others succeed, I am able to grow with them! And that is very rewarding. I hope you will join us! Mahalo!

Please feel free to email me at locketsbychristie@gmail.com to learn more about this amazing opportunity!

Jaci Atherton ~ Team Leader - Lorain, OH

My name is Jaci and I have been a designer with Origami Owl® since September 2013. When I first began my journey with this company, I attended a regional training event in Columbus, OH (exclusive training is just one of the perks). I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be more of a motivational and inspirational coaching session rather than just concentrating on "how to sell the product". I was able to hear real life stories from real life women about how far they have come, in part because of Origami Owl®. I learned more about how it all began and that this company is truly run by a family and not a big corporation. Knowing this melted my heart because I was able to actually relate to them.
One thing in particular that was said during the training was that in order to achieve my goals, I had to first figure out my "why". For me, my “why” is simple: My family. My husband and I are so incredibly blessed with our four amazing children; Grace, Charlie, Maggie and Emma. Despite my job as a full-time Registered Nurse and my husband’s job as a full-time police officer, we never seemed to have enough extra money for fun family excursions, or to take our family of six on vacations. In only a few short months, the commission I have earned has contributed to us to paying off some bills, enjoying a debt free Christmas, and paying for ballet, softball, and baseball! We are now actively saving for a vacation to Disney World! Since beginning my journey with Origami Owl®, I have also made some incredible new friends, from my jewelry bar hosts and their guests, to the other amazing designers I work with. We all have a story and a motive for joining Origami Owl®; some stories are similar and some are very different. I am genuinely grateful for the opportunities that Origami Owl®  has given me and it is awesome to be able to share my enthusiasm with others.  In February 2014, I began recruiting my own team of designers. This year, I am making it my goal to focus on building my team. I love being a mentor and helping other wonderful designers begin their journey with Origami Owl® too! I am extremely excited to see where Origami Owl® will take me in the future. If you are ready to create your own journey with Origami Owl® or are interested in discovering more about Origami Owl® and how this company can change your life, like it has for me, please visit me on FacebookWebsite or Email.

Kelly Ayers ~ Team Leader - Mentor, OH

Hoot! Hoot! Origami Owl® fans!  My name is Kelly Ayers.  I live in Mentor, OH with my husband, Tim, and our 2 blue eyed kiddos.  My son, Bryce, is almost 7 years old.  He’s my comedian, which after a 4-5 year battle with Verbal Apraxia, I am blessed to hear just about anything he has to say.  He continues to improve with intensive speech therapy, he makes me extremely proud.  My daughter, Molly, is almost 2 years old.  She is such a joy and thankfully has no speech delays, it’s a delight to hear her little voice..most days!  I work full time job as a Senior Pension Analyst with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, which I’ve been doing for 13 years.  It’s definitely not a job I planned to jump into, after graduating with a BS in Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences, but at the time, it was the door that God opened and I don’t regret it.  After all, it prepared me for the background to help my son with his language delay.  God’s plans work in mysterious ways.

I started my journey with Origami Owl® July 2, 2013 after a 4 month wait on the waitlist to receive my Origami Owl®  wings.  I first heard about OO in March 2013, when an online coop group posted that they were doing an Origami Owl® sale in preparation for Mother’s Day.  I decided that I’d make one for my mom and the day that it arrived in the mail, I was in awe at how beautiful it was in person and that each charm represented something special to her.  I immediately said “ok, now how quick can I order myself one!”.  I was drawn to the uniqueness and the ability to customize and I knew that not many people were even aware of what Origami Owl® was.  I had thought about joining a direct sales company, but never felt an instant connection that I could see myself excited about selling, but this was different.  I found myself wanting more and more!  I got my OO wings and haven’t regretted it since.  I have met so many new friends and have taken my leadership skills to a whole new level.

I have many goals that I pray Origami Owl® will help me to reach.  I started out with the small goal of just being able to live without the financial struggle of living paycheck to paycheck.  I can now gladly say we not only are doing better financially, but I am also able to start setting money aside in a savings account.  Having that cushion is such a relief, just knowing that when life happens and lemons are handed to us, we don’t have to resort to a credit card.  This leads me to one of my next goals, to reduce our debt, which I’ve already started.  Easier said than done, but I’ve already started and as I continue to grow my team and with fantastic customers and hostesses, I will reach and surpass this goal too!

Having no prior experience in direct sales, I am so blessed to come as far as I have!  I have such great leaders and I have worked extremely hard to follow their example and continue to learn and teach as I go. I’ll end with one of my favorite quotes because it’s not necessarily about your position or title:
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” - John Quincy Adams

Kathy Bommarito ~ Team Leader - Caledonia, MI
Hi, I’m Kathy Bommarito, a Team Leader with Origami Owl®.  I'm a wife and stay-at-home mom of five awesome kids! My husband & I were married in Jamaica ten years ago and our kids are now 14, 13, 8, & 6 year old twins!  I’ve been a stay-at-home-mom since my twins were born.  I call myself a “mom-preneur” because in that time I have started and owned several businesses, including a cake decorating business and a retail company promoting the Great Lakes, which we donate part of our proceeds back to the conservation of the Great Lakes and Lighthouse restoration.  I love summer & the beach, and I spend as much time at the beach as possible in the summertime!  So what’s in my locket?  I have the palm tree for my husband, a MOM charm for my kids, flip-flops, lighthouse, sun and a cupcake!!  That’s my story!

I joined the company last summer and it’s been a truly amazing experience!  Since my kids are now all in school, I was looking for a job opportunity that would allow me to be home with them after school and available to take them to their sports and activities.  While at my son’s baseball tournament, I walked over to an outdoor craft market and saw the Origami Owl® booth.  I was amazed! The jewelry was so sparkly and beautiful!  I immediately fell in love with Bella’s story and the concept of creating a meaningful piece of jewelry.  I went home that night, Googled Origami Owl® and found Karen’s blog.  I contacted her and joined right away.  I’m so glad I did, it’s been such a blessing in my life.  I recently bought a (new to me) vehicle and took my family on vacation!  All because of the income I earned doing Jewelry Bars!
I first joined Origami Owl® because I loved the jewelry and wanted to make money, but I now love being a designer and I love this company!  Origami Owl® gives you all the tools you need to have a successful business.  I’m having so much fun; I still can’t believe I get paid to do this!  I have met many inspiring people and I’ve been able to encourage and inspire others as well!  I never knew how much I would enjoy being able to help women tell their personal stories through their own customized jewelry!  And now that I have my own team, Team LocketMamas, I’m able to support and motivate them, which is also very rewarding!   Feel free to contact me at locketmamas@gmail.com or locketmamas.origamiowl.com for more information about Origami Owl® or to join Team LocketMamas! Mentor #35718.

Karen Rideout ~ Team Leader - Mendon, MA

Hi!  I’m Karen and I am so proud to be a Team Leader with Origami Owl!  I recently moved to MA and am thrilled to have the opportunity to spread the O2 love here!  I was so happy to be able to start my business with friends in Pennsylvania where it took off like a rocket because everyone just falls in love with these products!!
My Background:  I grew up in Long Island, NY and travel back as often as I can.  Opportunity knocks and my husband’s career has brought our family to Upstate NY, Pennsylvania and now Massachusetts – and my beautiful daughters are troopers through it all!  It’s a great life lesson to see what the future holds for us, but I do know that am taking Origami Owl with me every step of the way.
The Origami Owl love started for me in early 2013 when I saw someone’s locket posted on Facebook, I couldn’t stop thinking about that gorgeous locket!  When I woke up the next day I immediately signed up online!  It was while I was on the old wait list that I found Hoot Mama Lockets - and I count my blessings every day that I found Karen’s blog!   I couldn’t ask for a better mentor and leader to guide me on this journey.
It’s important for me to say that I do not have a sales background but I do have a passion for the product and the company!  And if you love the product and share your story through your locket, then guess what?  You’re already ‘selling’ Origami Owl!
I have met a great group of women since I started with OO whether they be guests, hostesses or my fabulous team members!  If you are ready to take the next step then I would be happy to help you on your journey!
You can email me at krideout.owl@gmail.com to learn more about this amazing company and what it can do for you!
